The Korean wind energy sector is experiencing rapid growth, driven by ambitious national targets for installed capacity. With current operational capacity at just 133 MW—only 1% of the 2030 installation target—the urgency to accelerate development and construction is clear. In response, South Korea plans to launch its first offshore wind tender this October, with at least two more scheduled before mid-2026.

TWD has reinforced its commitment to the Korean market through a series of strategic collaborations. Currently, TWD is partnering with HESI and Sambo CMC for the second time, building on the success of their ongoing collaboration on the Jeonnam Offshore Wind Farm. For this project, TWD has played a crucial role in equipment design, fabrication assistance, providing technical advice to local fabricator Sambo CMC.

Beyond project collaborations, TWD has been actively engaging with the broader Korean offshore wind industry. Last month, TWD participated in the Dutch Offshore Wind Trade Mission to South Korea, an event organized by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO). This initiative aimed to strengthen ties between the Dutch and Korean offshore wind sectors, fostering collaboration and exploring new business opportunities. Earlier this year, TWD signed an MoU with SPEC Engineering, a Korean enterprise, to collaborate on a pioneering R&D program aimed at significantly improving cost-saving pre-piling methods.

Simon Lembrechts, Commercial Manager at TWD, emphasized the importance of TWD’s presence in South Korea: “After building an extensive track record of offshore wind equipment worldwide, we are excited to support the Korean offshore wind market and drive sustainable solutions forward.” As TWD deepens its involvement in South Korea, TWD remains committed to contributing to the region’s renewable energy goals through innovation, collaboration, and technical expertise.

Asia Offshore Wind Day Busan: Join our session on Installation and Transportation

In response to this growing momentum, TWD is stepping up its involvement in South Korea’s offshore wind market. On 3 September, TWD will host a session on Transport and Installation of Foundations at the 12th Asia Offshore Wind Day in Busan. The session will highlight innovative techniques, practical case studies, and future trends that enhance the feasibility of jacket foundation installation. This event will serve as a valuable platform for networking and driving forward discussions that can shape the future of South Korea’s offshore wind industry.
