Pin Pile Seafastening for Changhua Project

Pin pile seafastening, upending hinge and internal lifting tool (ILT) installation frame

TWD helped EOS with the design of seafastenings for pin piles up to 82m long to be transported on two different barges. TWD also designed an ILT installation frame and an upending hinge which is integrated into the seafastening structure. The design process for each item included stability analysis, motion analysis and structural detailed design. Furthermore, integrity checks of the barges and cargo during sea transport and upending were carried out.

Project highlights

  • Robust and simple design
  • Easy handling and upending of the pin piles

As the global wind energy sector expands, a shortage of vessels for handling bigger monopiles is foreseen. Simply scaling up isn’t enough.
