HSD Deployment Frame – Wikinger

Piling rate increased by 50%

Offshore Wind Force (OWF) was awarded the Wikinger offshore wind farm construction, located in the German section of the Baltic Sea. To do so, 70 wind turbine foundations had to be transported and installed. A Menck Hydro Sound Damper (HSD) was used for the installation of the pinpiles. To bring the HSD system outboard, TWD provided OWF a custom-designed HSD deployment frame. This was the first frame for which we applied a rotational movement to bring the HSD system outboard. The rotating concept was chosen for its simplicity and operational advantages.

TWD is happy to have helped with the installation of the wind farm. Wikinger has 350 MW capacity and currently provides 350.000 homes with clean energy.

Project highlights

  • Project on short notice and finished in lead time of 3 weeks
  • Operational advantages reduced costly downtime offshore
  • The simple design is easy and fast to deploy, without the need for the main board crane
  • Frame accessible from both inboard and outboard position

As the global wind energy sector expands, a shortage of vessels for handling bigger monopiles is foreseen. Simply scaling up isn’t enough.
