Cable Lay Equipment – Hornsea One

Deck layout and seafastening for a variety of equipment

For the Hornsea One offshore wind farm, Tideway wanted to perform a cable jointing operation using the Lewek Connector. For this operation, TWD designed the deck layout and seafastening of all the necessary equipment. This consisted of a jointing container, two chutes, the rollerways in between, and the required winches and sheaves.

We carefully studied the deck layout and positioned the structures in a way that efficiently utilized the limited deck space of the Connector and created a fully functional jointing spread. In addition, we ensured that the spread was usable from both sides of the vessel.

On top of this, our teams also supported Tideway with the class approval, fabrication, and mobilization works. Through close collaboration with Tideway, we ensured an efficient operation, enabling the Connector to sail only four weeks after the project initiation.

We are very proud to have worked on a wind farm with a capacity of 1.2GW generating green energy for more than one million houses annually.

As the global wind energy sector expands, a shortage of vessels for handling bigger monopiles is foreseen. Simply scaling up isn’t enough.
