The offshore wind industry has taken an important step forward with DEME Group’s floating offshore installation vessel, Orion! We are thankful and proud to have been a part of this exciting and game-changing project.
In close cooperation with DEME’s engineering team, TWD developed the basic structural and mechanical design of a motion-compensated pile gripper. Our motion-control engineers performed extensive dynamic simulations and validated those in scaled tank tests. After confirming the feasibility of installing monopiles on DP, TWD’s support continued with detailed analyses of the interaction between the vessel’s Dynamic Positioning system, the crane and the MCPG, which over the last weeks resulted in the safe and stable installation of Orion’s first monopiles on DP.
Together with the design of the cantilevered “lifting tool insertion aid” and adjustable and lightweight monopile seafastening cradles, an unrivalled monopile installation machine is added to DEME’s fleet.
Congratulations again to DEME on its exciting new vessel and the successful completion of the foundation installations of Arcadis Ost 1. We wish DEME all the best for its future projects with Orion.
