Over the past years, the number of engineering constructions in cold climate regions has increased significantly. Extreme weather conditions like low temperatures and high wind speeds lead to ice, snow, and often moving sea ice. These factors introduce complexity and risks for our clients’ operations that have to be considered in the engineering phase.

Over the course of our varied design projects, our engineers and designers have developed knowledge and practical experience in designing cold climate-proof structures and tools. From these projects, we have learned that Winterization is not simply done by choosing the correct materials. It requires whole new functionalities and solutions.

For instance, mechanisms have to be designed to prevent or remove ice accretion on moving components. Next to that, heating and insulation solutions are essential for the use of hydraulic actuators.
