HDD Stinger – Spartan Rig 151

Ready for operation in less than a month

Furie Operating Alaska was building a new LNG production platform in Cook Inlet, Alaska. The existing onshore pipelines would be connected to the platform through a subsea gas pipeline installed by Heavy Lift at Sea. For this project, TWD assisted Furie Operating Alaska and Heavy Lift at Sea in designing and constructing a stinger frame built to guide a drill pipe during a horizontal drilling operation.

Our team’s creativity and innovative thinking ensured that the stinger was detachable and easily removable. In addition, to make sure the stinger would function as intended, we also assisted with the fabrication and mobilization works in Alaska.

Project highlights

  • The stinger frame was able to handle large horizontal shifts of the drill pipe to ensure its integrity
  • A pin-connection instead of welding for a detachable and easily removable stinger
  • Short lead time: designs drawings completed within a week
  • Stinger ready for operation in less than a month
