Monopile Installation Spread – Gode Wind 3

Versatile Installation Spread For XXL Monopiles

Jan de Nul successfully installed all 23 monopile foundations for Ørsted’s Gode Wind 3 Offshore Wind Farm using the Les Alizés floating heavy lift vessel.

TWD played a crucial role, providing engineering solutions that enabled the success of this project. Our team engineered the monopile seafastening deck spread, skid system, and upend hinge on the Les Alizés, ensuring safe and efficient handling of the TP-less monopiles. TWD also designed the Platform Installation Tool, which was instrumental in the seamless installation of both internal and external platforms.

Ørsted developed an advanced installation method that was employed for 3 of the 23 foundations, significantly reducing noise by incorporating a jetting system and ballast weights. In addition to minimizing noise, this method also has the potential to accelerate monopile installations. TWD has contributed by designing the fitting of umbilicals and hose routing on the monopile deck spread. We are proud that we contributed in a small part to this cutting-edge technology.

Project highlights

  • Versatile installation spread for XXL monopiles
  • Innovative tool for the efficient installation of internal and external platforms
  • Umbilical’s and hose routing for a jetting system for noiseless driving

As the global wind energy sector expands, a shortage of vessels for handling bigger monopiles is foreseen. Simply scaling up isn’t enough.
