Cantilever Bridges

Temporary Works Design provided the detailed design of a Cantilever Bridge for BAM International’s LNG project in Papua New Guinea. The Cantilever Bridge was used to build a permanent 2450 m long jetty, which consists of concrete headstocks supporting a roadway and LNG-pipe racks. The headstocks (including grouted joints), and loose roadway elements were placed by the Cantilever Bridge. The Cantilever Bridge was launched forward and then supported on temporary spud units while new foundation piles for the next head stock were driven. After completion of the new head stock, the spud units were retracted, roller supports were placed, and the Cantilever Bridge was launched further to the next headstock location. After successful completion of the first Cantilever Bridge, TWD delivered the calculations and design for two more BAM cantilever bridges in Australia. Fundamental parts of the original Cantilever Bridge in Papua New Guinea were reused and modified for the new bridge, located in the Ichthys field in Western Australia.
