Delft University of Technology Revealed Hyperloop Design Last Friday

As fast as a plane, as convenient as a train: the Hyperloop is a revolutionary concept for a new high-speed transportation system. The system incorporates a reduced-pressure tube in which pressurized capsules travel. The air resistance in this tube is so low that a vehicle can travel at almost the speed of sound, making the travel cheaper, more efficient, and also more convenient than airplanes.

In August 2013, Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla Motors and SpaceX, released the Hyperloop white-paper. In order to accelerate the development of a functional prototype and to encourage innovation amongst students, SpaceX is now organizing the Hyperloop competition. The competition, aimed at university students and independent engineering teams, entails teams designing half-size pods that will be traveling through a test track built by SpaceX in California.

The Delft Hyperloop team is competing in this competition and worked hard on designing the best Pod. After the development of a working prototype, TWD supported the Delft Hyperloop team with the design of a test frame. Instead of being launched, the Pod will stay in one place during the test phase. Speed will be added to the Pod with a driving system that is incorporated in the test frame.

The Delft Hyperloop team will present their design at the Texas A&M University this coming weekend. If they advance to the next round the team gets the ability to test their Pod in June 2016 on a 1.6 km long test track constructed by SpaceX.
