TWD, in collaboration with Ørsted Taiwan, has reached an important milestone with the successful transportation and installation of the first suction bucket jacket (SBJ) at Greater Changhua 2b and 4 offshore wind farms. TWD provided tailored designs of seafastening grillages with adjustable clamps for the safe transportation and faster installation process of the SBJs at the Greater Changhua 2b and 4.
Adjustable Clamps
Expertise in the transportation and installation of SBJs is still evolving. TWD’s track record in innovative seafastening equipment design was a key factor in securing this project from Ørsted. SBJs of varying dimensions were transported using seafastening grillages with adjustable clamps. The complexity and tailored design of these clamps marked an important milestone in the execution phase.
Eight sliding clamp assemblies were installed on each seafastening grillage. Each clamp had a custom design based on its deck location and specific requirements, optimized to minimize execution times. The design of the sliding uplift clamps and their ability to adjust to different SBJs leg dimensions is contributing to the successful transportation and installation of the SBJs at the Greater Changhua 2b and 4. This marked the first adjustable clamp design for SBJs from TWD.
Technical Assistance
In addition to delivering design engineering solutions, TWD played a vital role in the project’s mobilization phase. Smooth execution and real-time challenge resolution were ensured through technical assistance, ad-hoc problem solving during execution, and the establishment of procedures for the successful completion of the Site Acceptance Test (SAT).
Thijs Roethof, Country Manager Taiwan at TWD: “We are pleased to have contributed to the successful transportation and installation of the suction bucket jackets at the Greater Changhua 2b and 4 offshore wind farms. The innovative design of our adjustable clamps was crucial in ensuring the project’s safety and efficiency. This project shows TWD’s commitment to providing innovative solutions for the offshore wind industry and supporting global environmental objectives.”
