Engineered for Scale: Pre-Piling Template Heads Offshore for Fengmiao

Work has officially started offshore at the Fengmiao wind farm in Taiwan, with pin-pile installation underway. As pin piles are installed, CDWE’s pre-piling template designed in collaboration with TWD is being put to work in the field, supporting the offshore construction of the project.

Fengmiao is a 500 MW offshore wind farm developed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners. CDWE is carrying out the pin-pile installation. Once complete, the site will feature 33 jacket foundations supporting 15 MW turbines from Vestas, delivering clean energy for corporate offtakers in Taiwan.

Built Bigger, Designed Smarter

To support the pin-pile installation campaign, TWD collaborated in the design of a pre-piling template on a scale we had not tackled before. It is the largest and most capable template design TWD has participated in.

The engineering work started early in the project, allowing key installation requirements to be addressed upfront and preventing the pre-piling phase from becoming a potential bottleneck later in the project. The design was developed and finalized in close alignment with CDWE.

The template includes advanced levelling capabilities and retractable shims, allowing it to be positioned accurately and adjusted offshore as needed. These features help ensure reliable pile alignment while giving the offshore crew the flexibility required during installation.

Wider Scope

TWD’s role in Fengmiao brings together multiple elements needed to make the foundation installation work offshore, including pin-pile seafastening, seafastening for the pre-piling template, marine studies, and various supporting items.

Now that pin pile installation is underway, it’s great to see our designs moving from drawings and calculations into real offshore operations. It’s a solid example of how TWD supports increasingly large and complex offshore wind projects with practical engineering that works where it matters most.
