Circular Design for Offshore Access Structures

As part of ongoing efforts to improve sustainability in offshore construction, TWD is developing a circular design approach for offshore access structures such as stairs, railings, platforms, and ladders. These components, though relatively small in terms of total construction weight, contribute to around 2,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually.

The project aims to make these structures reusable, modular, and more cost-efficient. Key deliverables include a detailed circular design, a digital library of modular components, and tools to assess environmental and financial impact. With an estimated reuse potential of 75%, the approach offers a practical way to reduce material waste and emissions across the supply chain. It also supports local fabrication and employment.

This project is co-financed by the European Union.
